West Haven is moving up to CIAC Tier I after spending multiple years in Tier II. The move back up to the equivalent to division I high school football comes after going 17-3 over the course of the last two regular seasons.
The teams that West Haven will face have been announced, the only thing that is being waited on is what week the game(s) will be played along with home/away. With West Haven moving up to Tier I along with Hamden, we see Xavier and Daniel Hand get sent down to Tier II.
Out of the 10 teams the Blue Devils will face in the 2023 regular season, only one missed the playoffs last year. We will still see the West Haven vs NDWH rivalry game along with Hamden, but the Devils’ lose the long-standing rivalry game vs Hillhouse.
So far three weeks have been confirmed: West Haven faces Staples to open the season on the road for Week 1. The Blue Devils will see Ridgefield come to Ken Strong Stadium for Week 3. It will be a West Haven vs Newtown matchup for Week 8. The weeks that have not been confirmed for matchups vs North Haven, NDWH, Cheshire, Jonathan Law, Hamden, Fairfield Prep and Shelton.
Ridgefield is the only team that missed the playoffs last season. North Haven is fresh off a MM state championship as NDWH for Class M. Overall those 10 teams combined for a 73-27 (.730%) record last season, averaging a 7-3 record.
