Alexis Lafreniere is probably the most heavily scrutinized former first-overall pick in NHL history. The talks of Lafreniere being an all-time letdown has been the talk for the last four seasons

The 22-year-old has pieced together the kind of start to a season that could only be seen as the beginning of a breakout year.

Lafreniere made Sunday night his night against the Blue Jackets. The Canadian scored a go-ahead goal, a game-tying goal with 11 seconds remaining in regulation and then the lone-standing shootout tally.

The Lafreniere offensive showing helped New York extend their winning streak to three games as the Blueshirts remain a top team in overall league standings.
