Austin Wells finally got his much deserved promotion to triple-AAA yesterday.
The roster move by New York came as part of Jose Trevino being placed on the IL with a season-ending right wrist tear, and Ben Rortvedt joining the major league club. Wells going to Scranton was to fill-in the missing void of Rortvedt’s absence.
In 58 games with Somerset this season, Wells has hit .237 with a .770 OPS. The 24-year-old shot 11 homers and has accounted for 50 RBIs.
Ranked as the No.2 prospect in the Yankees’ organization, Wells mainly finds himself in the catcher / DH role, but could also play outfield and first.
It is expected Wells will find himself in the Bronx during the September call-ups our at the beginning of 2024.
