Breaking Down The New Haven Chargers 2024 Football Schedule

A new season awaits for Chargers football in West Haven. After multiple seasons falling short with early round playoff eliminations, UNH looks to not only get back into playoff football, but to also make a deep run.

With the University’s spring game slated for the early morning of April 20th –  We will get to see a very awake Chargers squad and get a mini taste of what’s to come in the regular season.

The Chargers are carrying 6 quarterbacks on their spring roster: 2023 starter Daelen Menard - Jack Chandler, who has appeared in 9 games for UNH, completing 20 passes with 3 going into the endzone - Former UCLA QB Parker McQuarrie - Jack Esquivel - Kyle Hawkins - Elijah Cromartie.

Also noted on the roster under the ‘athlete’ title is Josh Zamot, who played in (and dominated) last year’s spring game under center and looked to be in contention for the starting slot on the QB depth chart. Zamot battled with injuries, making 2023 a washed out season.

*A look at and breakdown of the chargers’ 2024 roster will be posted in the coming months

Winning is everything in sports and in football you cannot lose – like at all.

A 10 game regular season means no slip ups allowed, as even a record of 7-3 or even 8-2 could mean no playoff opportunities.

GAME 1 | Sept. 7 | New Haven will start off 2024 on a very tough note on the road in the very little town of Slippery Rock (Pop. of 3,591 (2022) which could all fit in UNH’s DellaCamera Stadium). This matchup marks the first time since 2018 that both sides have met. New Haven has a historical 3-3 record against Slippery, who is coming off of a very deep 2023 playoff run.

GAME 2 | Sept. 13 | A nighttime affair against Pace will be part 1 of 2, as the Chargers will face Pace twice in 2024. UNH has never lost to Pace in the 14 times the teams have met.

GAME 3 | Sept. 21 | UNH’s first home games comes against Franklin Pierce

GAME 4 | Sept. 28 | It’s a shame that the rematch of the 2023 NE10 title battle won’t happen on the blue turf of DellaCamera. New Haven faces Bentley to cap off the month of September.

GAME 5 | Oct. 5 | AIC is coming off of another miserable season that was marked up with a 3-8 record. This is another team that the Chargers like to dominate against, which they’ll probably do again this year and the next.

GAME 6 | Oct. 19 | The Elm City Bowl against Southern CT State is one that UNH has owned for years, but with SCSU ending 2023 on a solid note, could see a very improved Owl’s squad in 2024. This mid-season game is a must-watch no-matter what the team records are. It will be a dogfight to the finish that Southern wants to win in front of their home crowd.

GAME 7 | Oct 26 | Another away game features UNH vs Assumption. The Greyhounds finished at 5-5 last season and frankly this is an unpredictable team going into 2024, which I am very interested to see. Depending how UNH’s offense is (particularly at the QB/RB position) will undoubtedly play a huge factor in this game.

GAME 8 | Nov 2 | Post is coming off of a 1-9 season and 2024 won’t be any different. A ceiling of possibly 3 wins won’t see one come against – But upsets do happen though.

GAME 9 | The Chargers play their 6th and final away game of the regular season against Saint Anselm.

GAME 10 | The Chargers play their final home game of the regular season, which is part 2 vs Pace. It’s hard to beat a team twice in the same season, depending on who wins game one will undoubtedly factor into this and could possibly shake up any playoff hopes.
