Brett Baty Likely Done For 2023 After Being Optioned To Minors

Once again Brett Baty has been optioned down to triple-AAA, most likely we will not see the 23-year-old in the Majors again this season.

In 86 games, Baty has hit .216 with 7 HRs, 33 RBIs and a 77 wRC+, which is 23% below league average. To make the case even worse, Baty’s defense has regressed as well. Baty’s OAA is a -5, which ranks 34th in the Majors among third basemen this season, after being a -1 in 2022.

Mike Puma of the NY Post reported that the Mets have even been worried about Brett Baty’s mental state. It has been reported that Baty has spoken to team officials about the difference in concentration levels between the minor and major leagues.

Baty has a lot of room for improvement and it really can only go up from here, he is essentially at rock bottom.

New York optioning Baty to Syracuse once again uses one of his minor league options, it is only a matter of time before a possible DFA is issued.

The Mets recalled both Jonathan Arauz and Abraham Almonte from triple-AAA. Meanwhile in A-ball Mets, Ronny Mauricio is hitting .289 in 97 games, and is yet to be called-up.
