Cam Newton has had a very up and down career with inconsistency being the major part of it. From 2013-2017 he was either finishing the season multiple games below .500% or winning double-digit games.
He last played in 2021 for the Panthers, where he went 0-5 through eight games (five started).
Now being an unsigned free agent he recently held his own pro day style comeback showing. The throwing showing took place at Auburn’s pro day as Newton threw to the Eagles draft prospects.
Newton turns 34-years-old in May and with a stacked QB rich draft on the horizon, he said that he is willing back-up a quarterback and even made a list. Amongst many names was one that stood out: Aaron Rodgers.
The Jets have been trying to trade for the Green Bay’s golden boy for over a month now. New York recently signed former Rodgers’ QB2 Tim Boyle to a one-year deal along with Zach Wilson and Chris Streveler still on the roster.
As of now there is no place to put Newton and if he did go to New York then most likely he would be QB3 behind Boyle and Rodgers, or any QB1 the Jets’ get. All that would need New York to trade or release Wilson, which seems very unlikely as the organization seems fully committed.
