The University of New Haven Chargers faced the American International Yellow Jackets for a week three college football matchup. The Chargers came into their home stadium winning last time out, overall they sported a 1-1 .500 record at kickoff, 1-0 at home. The Yellow Jackets came in with their third straight week on the road, at kickoff they were 0-2 with both losses being blowouts.
Kickoff went at 1:00pmEST in front of a crowd that was marked at 4,017 people at DellaCamera Stadium. The first half of the game was a true offense by both sides as we saw heavy usage of the ground and air games. UNH’s first touchdown of the game came on their first drive, it was a 30 yard pass from QB1 Connor Degenhardt to Kevin Foelsch into the endzone. The Yellow Jackets would get on the board their first time via a 29 yard field goal from Josh Hamel. Overall it was a 27-20 UNH led score by the half. Based on the first half it seemed that it would be a close net game, the second half was anything but close net.
The Chargers continued their charge ahead with a TD in the early stages of the third quarter, it was a short 6 yarder from Degenhardt to Logan Shamar to make it a 34-20 game after the PAT from Briant DeFelice. The Yellow Jackets put up a TD of their own with 4:43 left in Q3, a 10 yard pass from QB1 Brandon Robinson to Amari N’Namdi Hall. The Chargers would make the Yellow Jackets pay just moments later as Terrell Ford returned a kick 81 yards into the end zone, UNH extended their lead, 40-26.
The team with the gold and blue jerseys came into the second half looking to extend their lead, they did that job more than efficiently and had a stellar defense to put any possible pressure to rest. UNH would win 54-26 over AIC, pushing the Massachusetts team to 0-3. This win puts UNH above .500% with a 2-1 record, undefeated at home with a 2-0 record. The Chargers go on the road as they face Bentley on September 23rd, their next home game comes on October 8th, against Pace.
