Edward L. Bennett Rink Ranked At Top Of Empire Conference Poll

The UNH Chargers hockey team home rink is constantly being used, even if there isn’t a Charger on the ice there are still many charging on to the ice.

Bennett Rink is in the parking lot of West Haven High School, located in West Haven, Connecticut. To some non-hockey fans it may just be another building on a high school campus, but to many it is a second home and a place to be rowdy.

The rink, commonly known as ‘The Bennett’ was constructed over 5 decades ago and provides home to several hockey teams ranging from the youth level all the way to college.

Despite being a DII university, New Haven ice hockey plays on the AAU level, competing in the Empire Conference.

The Empire Conference recently held a poll of the toughest arenas to play in as a visiting team.

Islanders Iceworks polled at 17.95%, The Rinks at Shelton polled also at 17.95%, and finally in first place is Edward L. Bennett Rink, which polled at 33.33%. Several other arenas make up for the remaining 30.77% remaining.

The Bennett is always packed and is always loud with some of the best student/fan sections I have ever seen. I personally have been to almost every hockey arena in Connecticut, and I can say with utmost confidence that it’s a true representation of how a smaller-scale hockey arena should be.
