Electrifying Jets' Offense Foreshadows 2023 Regular Season Expectations

We are now multiple days removed from the Jets v Panthers preseason game, and I still get shivers because the Jets’ offense was scary good. This is a team that is expected to make the playoffs and contend for a Super Bowl. Here are three storylines that are still hot to kick off a new week of football.

First of all Aaron Rodgers is on the sideline in what seemed to be a coaching role. Rodgers’ was wearing a headset in Jets’ sideline attire, while giving feedback to QBs Zach Wilson and Tim Boyle.

This was also the first game that we got an actual look at Zach Wilson, who did start the HoF game, but had limited throwing attempts. Wilson went 14-for-20 (70%), passing for 123 yards for a touchdown and a 102.7 QBR. The only really concerning moment for Wilson was his one and only sack that went for a 15 yard loss, overall though the 2021 first-rounder looked locked in.

Tim Boyle went 9/10, passing for 84 yards and 2 touchdowns, he also threw 1 interception. Nevertheless Boyle posted a 101.7 QBR, having just as a solid day compared to Wilson. Overall, Tim Boyal is expected to be QB3, but he could possibly find himself in a QB2 slot depending how the next two games go.

Israel Abanikanda was drafted 143rd overall by the Jets, and already it seems to be that they found a diamond in the late rounds. Abanikanda rushed for 56 yards off of 12 attempts, while also notching 31 receiving yards off of 3 receptions. In two preseason games the Pitt-product has 83 yards and a touchdown after 21 carries.
