I was originally going to do an article on Adeiny Hechavarria’s forgotten career as a Yankee, but I got the biggest “he was?!” moment when I went on Baseball Reference and saw he was a Met.
So, let’s look at the forgotten Mets career of Adeiny Hechavarria.
Adeiny Hechavarria was a New York Met for 60 games in 2019. This was part of his New York stint as the Mets tenure came immediately after his 18-game career as a Yankee.
On February 18th, 2019, Hechavarria signed a minor league, Spring Training invite deal with the New York Mets.
The Cuban product triggered an opt-out clause in his deal, which led the Mets to select his contract to their MLB roster.
Hechavarria appeared in 60 games as a Met and put up mediocre stats, slashing .204 / .252 / .359 / .611 with 5 home runs and 18 RBIs.
New York DFA’d Hechavarria on August 9th, 2019, to make room for the newly signed Joe Panik. The DFA would lead to Hechavarria’s eventual release from the team on August 14th.
