How Derek Jeter's Marlins Vision Laid The Foundation For The Yankees World Series Return

Derek Jeter is a saint in the Bronx and really everywhere in New York that isn’t Queens.

After his retirement, Derek Jeter took over as part-owner of the Miami Marlins in September of 2017, and instantly altered the team.

What no one knew though was that the then-new CEO Jeter would play a massive piece to the Yankees returning to the World Series after a 15 year hiatus.

One of Jeter’s first moves was sending Michael King to the Bronx for Yankees’ Garret Cooper and Caleb Smith.

One of Jeter’s next moves was sending Giancarlo Stanton to New York in exchange for Starlin Castro, Jose Devers and Jorge Guzman.

The Michael King trade would allow New York to develop King as a brilliant two-way pitcher, which led to his trade stock being one of the highest on the Yankees during the 2023/24 offseason.

Yankees’ GM Brian Cashman would then make a trade for future hall of fame outfielder Juan Soto, sending Michael King as one of the pieces sent to the Padres in exchange for Soto.

As we know now, Juan Soto and Giancarlo Stanton ended up giving the Yankees the push they needed to get to their first World Series since 2009.
