Ilya Sorokin is currently in his sophomore season of his NHL career, the 26-year old from the Russian Federation led the New York Islanders to a 13-6-3 record through 22-games played. Sorokin got sent into the spotlight and really got known around the NHL when the Islanders were in the playoffs and Sorokin got the start(s) as he helped the New York Islanders go deep into the playoffs. Now in the 2021/22 season Sorokin has started all eight games for the Islanders in replacement for the injured Semyon Varlamov, he has led the team to a 4-2-2 record to kick off the brand new season and already has two shutouts to his name. Sorokin was expected to get the starting goalie role but no one thought it would come this soon and the biggest thing about that is the fact he is not cracking under pressure and is doing a great job on the defensive side as he sports a .933sv% on the season. The New York Islanders have a very young team, but a very capable championship winning team too which will make this season very interesting as the players learn more and get used to playing with each other.
