It Is Crunch Time For The Blue Devils Girls Basketball Team

Folks it is crunch time, four games left with two at home and two away as the West Haven Blue Devils Girls Basketball Team sits 14-2. West Haven is set to play Thursday and Friday (2/10 - 2/11) for the final home games as they will face Career and North Haven, both teams are below .500% in the win-loss column. The final two games of the season will be played on the road against the 16-1 Sacred Heart Sharks and the 3-12 Lauralton Hall team, both games are played on Monday and Tuesday (1/14 - 1/15.)

The Blue Devils sit third in the SCC Standings with 83 power points and a fifth overall standing in the Class LL rankings. West Haven currently sits on a six game winning streak going into the career game, the last time the two teams met featured West Haven winning in blowout fashion with a 71-21 score. West Haven also took down North Haven in a true nail-biter game, 51-50 the score was when the final buzzer went off. When it comes to SHA and LH, West Haven sits 1-1 with a 61-51 loss against the Sacred Heart and a 72-40 win against Hall.

The team is led by Juniors Kassidy Carrano and Amani Abuhatab as both players continue to make All-State runs along with All-SCC. Abuhatab went All-State her Sophomore season with a great chance of replicating it again this year. Both players currently average over 16ppg as they are the powerhouse of the impressive West Haven offense. Other notables in the starting rotation include Dea Howard who has made clutch free throws over the last several games and can drop a three like there is no tomorrow. You also have Sophomore Isabella Fiorillo who is capping off a great season with assists and rebounds, she will without a doubt be a huge part to the team over the next several seasons. The only senior starter on the team is under the name Tenique Gates as she sports the no.23 jersey, Gates is basically the backbone of the offense as she is a true all around player who puts her team first.

The West Haven bench involves the likes of Ella Morgan, Ava Murphy, Mya Flemming, Sonai Maye and Daniela Campillo. Morgan comes into the Varsity squad as a Freshman and frankly she does not play like one, the veteran like playing style is one that can be compared to Caroline Doty. Ava Murphy seems to be getting more and more comfortable as a Varsity player, the Class of 2024 player has been ramping up her games over the last several matches with rebounds and scoring. Flemming is the true definition of defensive power and fits great in any lineup/combo she is put in, being able to adjust fast to the game makes her a great clutch player. Sonai Maye is a solid player up and down the court and could easily have a starting role by her senior season as she puts up consistent numbers. Campillo is a regular off the bench for Varsity and has a handful of points to her name, the biggest thing is her impressive JV work as she sharpens her skill with her solid offensive centered playing style.

West Haven enters the final four games as a playoff favorite with the players seen as stars to the home crowd and with the amount of talent that is on the team, how could they not be seen as stars?
