The New York Mets are reportedly open to trading catcher Omar Narvaez, according to the New York Post.
Omar Narvaez picked up his 2024 player option in November, but just because he picked up his option doesn’t mean he will be playing for the team in 2024. A trade would give the 32-year-old more playing time instead of playing behind Francisco Alvarez in Queens.
New York also claimed Tyler Heineman off waivers from the Blue Jays last month, making him part of the 40-man roster. The Mets also have Tomas Nido, who is set to make $2.1M in 2024, in the minors as he is currently off of the 40-man roster.
32-year-old Narvaez is set to make $7M in 2024 and is coming off of a 2023 season where he hit .211 with a .580 OPS in 49 games.
