Another shiny NE10 Championship trophy is heading to New Haven.
The win over Bentley gives shades to the Chargers' 2021 NE10 championship. Overall, this was New Haven’s 5th championship in 25 years of the NE10’s existence.
An absolutely stunning regular season is capped off in a 24-17 win against Bentley. Saturday’s matchup provided a back-and-forth defensive battle that New Haven got the better off, with defenders picking off Falcons’ QB Mark Waid twice.
Chargers’ QB Daelen Menard completed 50% of his passes (12/24) with 2 touchdowns. The majority of Menard’s 132 passing yards came via a 53 yard bomb to wide receiver Dev Holmes.
Menard capped off his first season as a starter in championship fashion. It was a season that could be made into a movie for Menard, who fought his way in preseason practices to get the QB1 slot and battled multiple injuries throughout the season.
Menard was tied for 1st in passing touchdowns (17), and was 4th in the NE10 for passing yards per-game at 135.4.
University of New Haven HC Chris Pincince told CT Sideline Sports, “We surround ourselves with really good people who work their butts off and love to be here.” Pincince also said that “We will have to see what happens next week” as New Haven will start their DII playoff run. Currently it is not known who the Chargers will face.
Last season New Haven took an early first round exit in a 16-13 loss against Shepherd.
