NYCFC has been around since 2013 and are MLS Cup champions, despite all of that they do not have a legit soccer stadium. The current home stadium for the New York City Football Club is Yankees Stadium in the Bronx as the club uses the outfield section when the Yankees are away/during the MLB offseason. Now after several seasons of play around a baseball diamond NYCFC is setting up plans for a true soccer stadium. New York City Mayor Eric Adams is expected to announce that he is onboard with plans for a 25,000-seat soccer stadium. The stadium is expected to be built near Citi Field, home of the New York Mets of the MLB.
Even with the mayor’s blessing the stadium would still need to be approved through the Uniform Land Use Review Procedure (ULURP) which is not a given, sources said. Still, a new stadium for the 2021 MLS Champions could be built by 2025, making it in time for the 2026 World Cup which is being held in New York City and New Jersey.
