Should The Mets Sign Bartolo Colon

Updated: May 18, 2023

With the start of the 2020 MLB season this Thursday, the New York Mets come into it with a pretty unstable pitching line - up. Back to back CY Young winner Jacob deGrom is really the only stand out player as ace Noah Syndergaard is out for Tommy John. The Mets also have Marcus Stroman and Rick Porcello. Stroman had a very huge up and down season with both the Blue Jays and the Mets, Porcello is coming to Citi Field after playing five seasons for the Boston Red Sox.

Free Agent Bartolo Colon who played for the Mets from 2014-2016 stated that he would like to come back and end his career in Citi Field. Colon, who last played for the Rangers in 2018 ended that season with a 7-12 record with a 5.78 ERA .The last few seasons have been down for Colon, but I feel with his veteran presence and his ability to come in clutch, he can have a decent final season and due to it being only 60 - games it will definitely help. Colon had a pretty good stint with the Mets with a win/loss record of 44-34 with one shutout and a ERA of 4.17 during those three seasons, 2016 being his best year ERA wise with a 3.43 ERA.

Bartolo Colon is the oldest active player in the MLB at age 47 hopes to do at-least one final season, but with opening day just days away it is highly unlikely that we will ever see "Big Sexy" on the mound again. Colon has been very vocal on how much he wants to end his career with New York, if they do take him most likely he will be a relief pitcher and maybe start late in the season.
