SEPT. 5th: The New York Yankees opened up a four game series set with the Minnesota Twins in the Bronx. New York came in riding a rough patch that goes all the way back to the first game after the all-star break. Yankees' infielder Marwin Gonzalez knows all too much about rough patches, as he entered play batting on the Mendoza Line through 65 games.
The 33 year old vet stood up to the plate batting ninth in the Yankees' lineup against Chris Archer. Gonzalez didn't even give Archer a chance to challenge him as he hammered the ball for a big fly out into left field, clearing the wall for a home run. The homer extended the Yankees lead and snapped a 65 day hitless streak for Gonzalez, a long slump has now come to an end after home run No.4 as the season draws closer to ending.
The Yankees' would end up winning 5-2, giving them their 81st win of the season, the win guarantees at least .500 wp% season for the struggling pinstriped team.
