Last night the New York Knicks signed free agent F/C Taj Gibson to a 1-year deal, marking his return to MSG.
With Mitchell Robinson out 8-10 weeks with an injury, Tom Thibodeau has one of his favorites back. Gibson has played for the Thibodeau coached Bulls, Wolves and is now making his second stint with Thibs’ Knicks.
Gibson has appeared in 945 games during his 15-year career, averaging 8.7 points-per-game. Last season, Gibson appeared in 49 games with Washington, putting up a career-worst 3.4 PPG. Taj played on the Knicks from 2019-2021/22, appearing in 159 games, starting in 63, posting a .577 FG% and 5.3 PPG.
Realistic expectations for Gibson will most likely see him in a veteran presence role in the second rotation. At the end of his career Gibson isn’t going to average double-digit points, he will be a game manager. Taj, per usual, will have his main job to collect rebounds.
