Why Hal Steinbrenner Is On The Hot Seat

Updated: May 17, 2023

Hal Steinbrenner is the owner of the New York Yankees, inheriting the famous team when father, George Steinbrenner died in 2010. Since then, under the new management the Yankees have failed to get a World Series win as they have not even made a WS appearance, at most making the ALCS. From 2010 to July 7th, 2021 the Yankees have gone 998-767, giving them a .565 wp%. Many say that is a good win-loss column record as they are 231 games above .500, that is a total of one and two - quarters of a season (1.4 seasons.)

The problem is that is the record, the Yankees have been the best team in the American League since the Hal Steinbrenner takeover and yet, they are world series-less. How can a team be so dominate but yet fail year after year in making it to the biggest event in baseball? Many have blamed Brian Cashman, the Yankees GM, but at the end of the day it all goes to the owner, Hal.

I think it is safe to say that Hal Steinbrenner is on the 'hot seat' as the Yankees owner, he cannot make or manage a true winning team, instead he will trade or sign for career .150 hitters while getting pitchers with multiple Tommy John Surgeries and then act like nothing is wrong as the team loses 12-1. Most likely we will see Hal sell the team within the next several years or he will step down as the owner.
