XFL New York Guardians Preview

Updated: May 17, 2023

Background

The XFL is on the revamp as it is coming back for the first time since 2001 and it has all new teams. The only New York based team is the New York Guardians who call MetLife Stadium, home of the NFL's New York Jets and Giants. Technicity MetLife Stadium is in East Rutherford, New Jersey, but its only eight miles away from the big apple. The Guardians have some of the best jerseys in the XFL

Management

The Head Coach and GM of the team is New Haven, Connecticut's Kevin Gilbride. Kevin Gilbride coached for 20 years in the NFL for various teams, he also coached collage football for over a decade. Gilbride also has two rings, both being with the New York Giants. Gilbride definitely has the experience in both the regular season and playoffs, its gunna be a very interesting season with him as the HC.

Quarterbacks

Penn State's Matt McGloin will be the starting Quarterback for the team. Matt McGloin tore it up for Penn State leaving the collage with a record 46 TDs and ranked second in the schools history. McGloin went undrafted in the 2013 NFL Draft and later ended up on the Raiders until 2016, he then spent a short stint of time on the Eagles, Texans and Chiefs.

Luis Perez was the First Team All-American in 2017. The former Harlon Hill Trophy winner also spent time in the NFL for the Lions, Eagles and the Rams. Luis Perez is a solid second string QB and will definitely produce when he is called on.

Marquise Williams mainly played in the CFL and the AAF, but he also was on the Green Bay Packers as a offseason member. Williams is a good third string QB with a decent amount of experience under his belt.

Running Backs

1st String - Tim Cook lll / 2nd String - Justin Stockton / 3rd String - Darius Victor / 4th String - Matthew Colburn ll.

New York definitely has a strong Running Back section.

Wide Receivers / Tight Ends

WR - Mekale McKay / WR - Joe Horn / WR - Colby Pearson / WR - Teo Redding / WR - Austin Duke / WR - Justice Liggins / TE - Jake Sutherland / TE - Keenen Brown / TE - Jake Powell / TE - Ej Bibbs.

The Guardians have a good Wide Receiver section with an average Tight End section.

Offensive Line

The Offensive Line consists of Garrett Brumfield, Ian Silberman, John Kling IV, Brant Weiss, Avery Young, Jarron Jones, Anthony Coyle and Damien Mama. The OL consists of some very good players, the Guardians have one of the best O - lines in the XFL.

Defensive Line

Lets go to the other side now, the Defensive Line. The Defensive Line consists of Charles Wright, Bunmi Rotimi Jr. Jarrell Owens, Tj Barnes, Joey Mbu, Toby Johnson Jr. And Cavon Walker. The D - Line is pretty good, just above average for the league.

LineBackers

Ryan Mueller, D'Juan Hines, Frank Ginda, Jawuan Johnson, Nick DeLuca, Ben Heeney, Garret Dooley. The Linebacker position is very powerful having Mueller and Ginda.

Special Teams

Punter - Justin Vogel / Kicker - Matthew McCrane / Long Snapper - Scott Daly. The Guardians are very lucky to have Matthew McCrane as kicker as he is such a strong one, expect a lot of Field Goals to be good when he kicks.

Defensive Backs

Jamar Summers, Dravon Askew-Henry, Ranthony Texada ll, Dejuan Neal, Wesley Sutton, Bryce Jones, Andrew Soroh, Terrence Alexander, Aj Hendy and Demetrious Cox. New York has some pretty good Defensive Backs, this will be crucial to winning games.
