The New York Yankees went up against the Oakland Athletics today for the final game of what was a three game set. Coming in the series was tied 1-1 with the A's winning game one and the Yankees winning the most recent yesterday. On the mound for the pinstripes was Jordon Montgomery who sat 3-1 in his pitching win-loss column with a 4.20 ERA, he set up against Sean Manaea who came in 6-2, despite that he had a 6.99 ERA. The Yankees have not had the best season so far, but as of recently they have been winning and hitting. Coming into the game they were third best in the ALE with a 37-33 win-loss record opposed to the A's 44-28 first place ALW record.
The game did not feature much and was mainly a defensive game as the Yankees would win 2-1, sealing their 38th win of the season, but the win did not come that easy. Aroldis Chapman allowed two base runners, the A's had a chance to take the lead and force a bottom of the 9th. Chapman would end up having the hitter hit into a triple play to end the game, now it is rare to see a triple play but for the Yankees it is like changing their underwear as this was their third triple play of the 2021 season! This is truly historic in the sport of baseball, three triple plays in just a single season! The amount of luck the Yankees have defensively is surreal.
I also wanna add that Gary Sanchez, the New York Yankees catcher continues to stay hot as he is currently the best catcher in the MLB, going 2-3 today on his batting line Sanchez got a double each time. So far Gary Sanchez has been scary at the plate and if Scary Gary can keep it up he will most definitely seal his role as the Yankees starting catcher.
Picking up the win today was Jonathan Loaisiga, this is his 7th win of the season (7-2)
Getting the loss today is Sean Manaea, his 3rd loss of the season (6-3)
Aroldis Chapman picks up his 15th save of the season.
